Abstract: Objective To study distribution and taxonomic of Culicoides(Sinocoides) in China. Methods Using mosquito net trap,light trap and insect net capture to collect midges. The type specimen is deposited in Center for Disease Control and Prevention,Shenyang Military Command,Shenyang 110034,China. Results 6 species of Culicoides(Sinocoides) known in China were recorded,of which Culicoides(Sinocoides) kongmiaoensis was described as a new species. The diagnosis of Culicoides(Sinocoides) was described and illustrated. Mean values of certain numerical characters and distribution of known species in China were recorded. The key to females of Culicoides(Sinocoides) was given. Conclusion Distribution and classification of Culicoides(Sinocoides) in China are provided. Culicoides(Sinocoides) kongmiaoensis sp.nov. (Fig.1) The new species is somewhat allied to Culicoides hamiensis Chu,Qian et Ma,1982,but they are distinctly different in sensilla coeloconica on antennae,antennal ratio (AR),numbers of mandible teeth and pale spot in cell A of female. Female: Wing length 1.18 mm. Eyes separated,without interfacetal hairs; sensilla coeloconica of antennae on segment 3-15 ,AR 1.59 ; third segment of palpus with a large sensory pit,palpal ratio (PR) 2.42 ; mandible with 13 teeth. Wing with 3 pale spots. Abdomen spermathecae 3,unegual,with size of 45 μm× 35 μm ,55 μm× 45 μm ,45 μm× 35 μm ,respectively. Male Unknown. Holotype ♀,collected on 2003-06-18,Qufu city Shandong province,China,insect net capture.
